Task 6 - 3D material samples - including mod rock, papier mache and wire

3D material samples - including mod rock, papier mache and wire

Papier Mache
These images are of my 3D work as you can see we started too use papier mache, So as yo can see from the images below I started too create my piece using cardboard, Newspaper and tape. My work took shape very quickly in my eyes and I was happy with the first stages of my work.as you can see the different stages show how well it developed as I was basing my work off of pictures and my 2D model. The plan after modelling this is too cover it using papier mache. Through the design of this 3D model i found it pretty difficult too make it stand up, This is the main difficulty i faced while making the papier mache modelLater on as you can see i applied the papier mache and then after waiting for the mache too dry i painted it in white too finalize the look of it and then i was happy with how it turned out.

Wire Work
These images below are of the 3D wire work i had completed, I found the wire work relatively easy as all i found i had too do was twist the wire and other things like that so naturally i found i easy. One of the difficulties i did find was that the legs wouldn't stand up again, But too solve the problem i had too wrap mthe legs with other pieces of wire too make it more sturdy.

Clay Work

Finally I produced a clay model of my insect. This was another that i found very easy, It didn't really take me long too complete. One of the main difficulties i found was the effect i was placing on the wings as i wanted them too appear too be flying so i made them stand slight so holding them up really was the only difficulty i faced. Overall with my work i enjoyed it. This is what i would say was the most enjoyable too prudce and i feel my final outcome is of a good standard.

Task 4 - Final A3 colour mixed media illustration

Final A3 colour mixed media illustration
For my final A3 piece I decided too use Water colour paint, Oil pastel and some collage work, The main background of my final piece is a dark deep purple I made by mixing blue and red too make the colour, I felt that the colour of my final piece would stand out more on a dark background as I have used very light colours. I think I was correct in thinking this as it does make my piece stand out.

Now onto the main piece it's self, The body is made up of two different insects, Wasp, Stick-insect. I felt like these two insects complimented each other and combing the two wouldn't make my final piece too unrealistic. I felt my choice of insect turned out well.

Now onto the type of materials used. So as I drew the parts of the insect I went over each with a white oil pastel giving them an unique design. After doing this i went over them in water colour and this gave my design the effect you can see now. I felt it really worked well and made my design stand out from some of the others in the class. After waiting for my design too finalise as a final decision i made the insect into some collage work by separating certain parts of it and placing it on the background too hopefully make certain areas stand out i think this did the job and I am very happy with how it came out.

Task 3 - Alternative mixed media sample illustration of mini beasts

These following images are of some of the different samples I did, Unfortunately at the time the colour on the scanner wasn't working so I will describe what colour and object/media they are. So above is simple tonal work with pencil, Shading, Line work and other forms of media using pencil.

Next these following samples are to do with coffee and tea work using them too create effects on the paper.

This second image follows the first in using coffee and the too create effects on the paper, I liked this method but did't see it as being practice for an insect.

These next few images will be using colour mainly pain such as water and acrylic paint. Te image above is using acrylic paint and shows using dot work how too blend the paint together too give faded looks.

These next images are of different shaded of colours topped with a darker shade of the same colour too give a nice effect, personally this is one f my favourite techniques but again didn't think it was practical for he insects.

And again this is more pencil work using simple techniques like cross hatching and things like that again something I took into consideration when picking what media too use for my mini-beast.

These were simple acrylic samples used too display primary and secondary colours.

This final piece is an advanced techniques using things like string, Tape and glue I was able too create effects over the top of these materials using water colour.

Task 2 - Alternative design ideas for your mini beast

Next I had  to come up with the idea's for mini beast, I had sampled a lot of insects and began too mix and match and come up with idea's on how I wanted my mini-beast too look, I was never limited too a certain type of material or media too use so I managed too use and array too also test how certain things will look.

This image above is an example of the research and the selection process of when I was making y final selections. As you can see I have shown with boxes the parts of the insects I wished too use and have used real photography too reference from.

This next image is of some pencil sketches I drew combining aspects of different insects and as you can see from the picture I have annotated the images labelling them and telling you what parts i have used and as you can see I have also used some simple pencil tonal work with shading.

The third image you can see is an insect i developed using parts of a wasp and stick insect a drew using pen, I decided too use pen as I wanted to try different type's of media too see which would suit my final selection/mini-beast, I think the pen worked pretty well but this far in a did prefer pencil at the time.

This final image is very simple not much tonal shading has taken place and I believe the more simple work done on these insects the more effective it will be but it is very obvious of the different selections of insects on this piece from the head too the legs i have used a multiple arrays of insects.

Task 1 - Tonal Work - Pencil+Pen

Tonal Work
At the beginning of the unit we were set too produce some tonal work using multiple materials. This consisted of using pencil in different tones such as shading lighter and heavier in places ad things like that, Below will be some examples of the work i produced as well as explanations on how I produced this.

The image above is one of the first pieces of tonal work I produced using simple pencil shading too produce this technique, I think this is very effective on insects as if used properly it can really show off the look of the insect and the shiny, Ridged, ETC. effects.

This second image is of the first pen image I completed, I personally like the pen tonal work more as I believe it is more effective than the pencil as you can really make certain parts of the insect stand out. So as you can see with the pen I have made more lines thicker than the  rest too try and show off the look of the inset a style I personally prefer.
This is the third and one of the final examples, This is showcasing a combination of the two, Pen ad Pencil. I used a rubbing technique on the pencil too show a fading effect on the insect which I think worked really well and made the piece look complete on a whole.
The final image is a simple pencil drawing not much tonal work done as I didn't enough time but my idea was too use the spots in the middle too rub them and too give the insect some sort of 3D effect which I am hoping too come back too at some point and complete. To see how it would turn out. Personally I think it will work well.
